Premium rate services offer information and entertainment
via phone, fax, PC (e-mail, Internet, bulletin board), mobile
(SMS/WAP) or interactive digital TV. Services range from
sports, voting and sex lines to competition, chat and business
information services, and currently vary in cost from 10
pence per call to £1.50 per minute. The money paid
for the call is shared between the telephone company carrying
the service and the organisation providing the content.
Approximately 40,000 services are in operation at any one
time, generating estimated revenue of
£1 billion in 2003.
All UK-based premium rate services must normally be advertised
on ‘090’ dialling codes. All UK-based ‘adult’
(sexually explicit) services must only be advertised on
the 0909 dialling code.

MUST comply with the PhonepayPlus code of practice when using
any of our numbers. We will
help you determine what steps you need to take to comply
with the PhonepayPlus code of practice.
