Dating
and Contact services

Open
most publications these days and you will find somewhere,
usually at the back, a dating service helping those who
lead hectic lives find their perfect match. These dating
services can be a very lucrative way for a publication
to generate extra income, with would-be suitors responding
to adverts placed in the magazine by dialling up a premium
rate number and leaving a message. These messages are
then picked up by the other party, who access their mailbox
via another premium rate number.
At
IV response we have pioneered a very simple dating service
that not only allows messages to be exchanged between
interested parties, it also allows those parties to contact
one another and talk directly using a personal rate number
allocated by the service. This number can even be used
to block unwanted calls.
Although
designed initially for dating services, this type of exchange
mechanism has applications for all kinds of personal advertising,
such as job search, flat share, car buying, the possibilities
are endless.
We
offer four variations of the dating service that can be
tailored to meet your clients’ needs.
Each
service can have up to nine distinct categories that can
be defined as you see fit, allowing you to cater for most
tastes.
With
a simple voice file numbering system and the facility
to record prompts over the phone, we believe we have created
a service that allows agents to accommodate any client’s
needs, even those that need services run in another language.
An agent’s bespoke prompts are stored in unique
folders allowing only that agent to access those prompts.
Full
Dating service
This
is a contact service where every user is issued a mailbox
for voice messages, and a personal number so that they
can be contacted directly by third parties.
Features
of this service;
| • |
An
advertiser dials up a number in order to place
an advert. They are given a PIN protected mailbox,
are issued with a personal number that is mapped
to any UK landline or mobile number of their choice,
and they record a short message and a longer greeting.
|
| • |
A
responder dials up a separate number in order
to respond to an advert. They can either listen
to a specific mailbox if they know the number
(this mailbox number could have been advertised
in a printed medium for example) or elect to listen
to messages of a specific nature, for example
men seeking women, flats available in north London,
or whatever else it is you are promoting. When
replying, responders will be given their own PIN
protected mailbox, issued a personal number, and
leave a reply to an advert. They also have the
option to divulge their personal number to the
advertiser. |
| • |
In
order to find out if there any replies, either
to the initial advert or to a reply, both advertisers
and responders dial up the retrieval line, where
they can listen to any replies and leave further
messages, or change some of their service settings;
such as re-record their messages. |
| • |
The
personal number enables a user to avoid giving
out their contact details and can manipulated
in a number to ways, for example - prevent nuisance
callers. |
| • |
Although
we have called this the ‘Full Dating’
service, its application goes far beyond just
that. You are free to select whatever number ranges
they feel their market will bear for the advertising,
reply and retrieval lines. |
Legal
Requirements Prior permission is not required to run this
service, as Personal Numbers are not regulated by PhonepayPlus.
Should an agent decide to use premium rate numbers for
any part of the service, as the service provider, they
must ensure that all provisions of the 11th Edition of
the code of practice are complied with.
Voice-box
Dating service
This
identical to the Full Dating service described above,
except that no personal numbers are issued.
Features
of this service;
| • |
An
advertiser dials up an advertising number and
records a short greeting and a longer personal
message. |
| • |
A
responder dials up the reply number. They can
either listen to a specific mailbox if they know
the number (this mailbox number could have been
advertised in a printed medium for example) or
elect to listen to messages of a specific nature,
for example men seeking women, flats available
in north London, or whatever else it is you are
promoting. When replying, responders will be given
their own PIN protected mailbox. |
| • |
In
order to find out if there any replies, both advertisers
and responders dial up the retrieval line, where
they can listen to the replies and leave further
messages, or change some of their service settings;
such as deactivating their mailbox. |
| • |
Although
we have called this the ‘Voice-box Dating’
service, its application goes far beyond just
that. Agents are free to select whatever number
ranges they feel their market will bear for the
advertising, reply and retrieval lines. |
Legal
Requirements Prior permission is not required to run this
service. Should an agent decide to use premium rate numbers
for any part of the service, as the service provider,
they must ensure that all provisions of the 11th Edition
of the code of practice are complied with.

Classified Advertising service
This
is a contact service where advertisers are issued a PIN
protected mailbox, and responders are given the facility
to leave replies for advertisers or to dial through to
a contact telephone number without either party knowing
the other person’s contact details.
| • |
An
advertiser dials up an advertising number. They
are given a PIN protected mailbox and they record
a short greeting and then a longer message about
the item or service they wish to advertise. They
also input a contact telephone number that they
wish responders to be connected to. Depending
upon the advertising number used, this contact
telephone number can be any UK landline or mobile
telephone. |
| • |
A
responder dials up using a reply line. They can
either listen to a specific mailbox if they know
the number (this mailbox number could have been
advertised in a printed medium for example) or
chose to listen to messages of a specific nature
(e.g. cars for sale). When replying, responders
record a reply for the advertiser. I addition
to this they may elect to have the service connect
them to the contact telephone that was entered
by the advertiser. |
| • |
The
responder does not know this telephone number,
nor does the service present the advertiser the
responder’s telephone number. |
| • |
In
order to find out if there any replies, advertisers
dial up the retrieval line, where they can listen
to the replies, or change some of their service
settings; such as set the time they will allow
calls to be routed to their contact number. |
| • |
Although
we have called this the ‘Full Classified
Advertising’ service, its application goes
far beyond just that. An obvious one is to use
this service as a direct dial dating service.
Be aware that there are PhonepayPlus issues regarding
this kind of a service (which is why we have elected
to provide a dating service with personal numbers
instead). Agents are free to select whatever number
ranges they feel their market will bear for the
advertising, reply and retrieval lines. |
Legal
Requirements A service provider may require prior permission
from PhonepayPlus before they can run this type of service on
premium rate numbers. On top of this, if the service is
deemed by PhonepayPlus to be chat or of a sexual nature, the
service provider may have to pay a non-returnable bond,
as well as ensuring they record and monitor all calls.
Finally service providers must ensure that all provisions
of the 11th Edition of the code of practice are complied
with.
